DMX grows orchids in Fresh Off the Boat

A moving video of DMX explaining how to grow orchids has resurfaced in the wake of his death.

The rapper died on Friday aged 50 after suffering a heart attack, his family announced in a statement.

He had been placed on life support days prior at a hospital in White Plains, New York.

The news of DMX’s death was met with widespread tributes from fans as well as prominent figures in the music industry.

On social media, many resurfaced a scene from a 2015 appearance by DMX in the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat.

DMX played himself on episode nine of the show’s second season, titled “We Done Son”.

At one point, DMX tries to explain the key to romance to Eddie Huang (portrayed by Hudson Yang).

Turning to rows of blooming orchids, DMX tells the boy: “When I first started growing orchids, I thought they needed the most expensive soil and lights to blossom. They died.

“That’s when I realised that all they really needed was time and attention. You don’t need to get your girl a gift. You need to give her your time.”

The scene took on special meaning following the news of DMX’s death, prompting people to reminisce about the moment in their tributes to the artist.

“This was such a pure moment. Today, I’m thinking of DMX and his orchids,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“I hope somebody takes over the orchids for DMX,” someone else tweeted.

Another person described the scene as “a metaphor for life”.
