Grant Hart, drummer for the punk band Husker Du, has died aged 56, according to reports.

In the evening on 13 September, the official band page on Facebook posted a photo of Hart with no caption.

While there has yet to be any official comment from the band or their representatives, fans believe that the post is confirmation that the artist has died from cancer - which Variety reports he had been diagnosed with.

Several music journalists and fans have posted tributes on social media as the reports emerge.

Hart's songwriting, alongside his bandmates Bob Mould and Greg Norton, helped to shape the sound of alternative rock today.

Husker Du's special box set Save Young Du is being released on 10 November, and will feature the band's earliest recordings and performances.

It will also include 47 never-before-released tracks from session masters, demos and live tapes.

The set will be available on three CDs, four LPs or on digital formats, anf includes an extensive book of photos and liner notes.

This article will be updated as the story develops.
