Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and former star of the hit musical Hamilton, has released a cut song from the musical amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Productions of Hamilton in New York and Los Angeles have been forced to close in the wake of the disease spreading.

“Wish I could send you peace of mind via this app”, the Broadway star wrote on Twitter, adding: “Alas.”

“But I can send you music no one’s heard. Here’s a cut Hamilton/Washington tune called 'I Have This Friend'. No one’s heard it, not even Kail.”

On the music website Soundcloud, Miranda expanded on the context for the song, saying it was in fact an early draft of the song “The Reynolds Pamphlet”, which features in Hamilton‘s final version.

Miranda rose to global fame with the critically acclaimed musical, which tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, the man who invented the US banking system.

There is a filmed version of Hamilton coming to cinemas in 2021, starring the original Broadway cast.
