When it started, many dismissed TIDAL for a number of reasons - it was criticised by artists including 50 Cent, sued by another rapper and abandoned by multiple CEOs.

In the face of adversity, however, Jay Z’s streaming service has managed to attract 1 million subscribers.

The rapper Tweeted: "'Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists'. Tidal is platinum. 1,000,000 people and counting. Let's celebrate 10/20 Brooklyn.

To celebrate, TIDAL and HTC are throwing a massive concert on the 20 October featuring both Mr and Mrs Carter (Beyonce), Prince, Usher and Nicki Minaj.

It will be the first in a series of “philanthropic music events” put on by TIDAL “aimed at raising awareness, funds, conscious engagement, and dynamic action for transformative and positive social impact worldwide."

Proceeds from ticket sales are going to selected charities, while artists playing at the event will be collaborating with each other to promote the message of “unity through music.”

A million subscribers may seem like a lot but in comparison to Spotify, who have over 20 million paying users, and Apple Music, who have many millions of trial subscribers, it seems very few.

Still, that won’t stop the star spangled concert from being a must-see event - who doesn't want to see Prince, Jay Z and Beyonce all on stage together?

Unfortunately you must be a TIDAL member to buy tickets, which go on sale 2 October. Luckily, you start a free trial here to be in with a chance of getting them.
