Johnny Cash to get 50ft ’Man in Black’ statue in Folsom that looks like he has a Ring of Fire at sunset

Johnny Cash is to get a suitably badass statue in Folsom, the city he sang about in Folsom Prison Blues and whose jail he infamously performed in.

The monument, which is in development with Gary Tillery and The Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt-Amrany, will stand 50 feet tall and be titled after his nickname, the ‘Man in Black’.

The structure has flame cutouts, which makes Cash looks as though he’s in his famous ‘Ring of Fire’ when backed by the California sunset.

It will be a centrepiece to Folsom’s Johnny Cash Trail, a 2.5-mile long tribute to the country star with a bridge designed to echo the look of Folsom Prison’s East Gate guard towers. Cash advocated for prisoners rights and performed at several jails across America to a terrific response.

The plan is for ‘Man in Black’ to be unveiled in 2018, dependent on funding.
