Juice Wrld death: Chicago-born rapper dies aged 21, reports say

Juice WRLD died of an accidental overdose of Oxycodone and codeine, a coroner has confirmed.

The rap star, real name Jarad Higgins, died in December at the age of 21. He went into convulsions at Midway International Airport in Chicago, shortly after he and his entourage arrived on a private plane.

He was taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after.

At the time, a Chicago Police spokesperson said that a drug-sniffing dog made a “positive alert” on luggage carts that were loaded with bags from the plane.

He added that a search of the bags revealed suspected marijuana, bottles of prescription cough syrup, firearms and metal-piercing bullets.

The spokesperson said none of the dozen or so people aboard the plane admitted to carrying the drugs. But he said that detectives were conducting a forensic analysis to determine which bags belonged to which passengers, adding that two security guards who were on the plane were arrested for misdemeanor gun charges.

Drake and Travis Scott were among the names who expressed grief in the wake of Juice WRLD’s death.

In his own tribute, Chance the Rapper wrote: “Millions of people, not just in Chicago but around the world are hurting because of this and don’t know what to make of it. I’m sorry. Love you and God bless your soul.”
