Kanye West has officially reached billionaire status, as his line of sneakers was described as “one of the great retail stores of the century”.

According to Forbes, the rapper, producer and fashion designer is said to have reached a net worth of $1.3bn (£1.05bn).

A new article was headlined: “Kanye West is now officially a billionaire (And he really wants the world to know).”

According to the report, West’s team sent what Forbes deemed sufficient evidence to place him on its coveted list of world billionaires, a list that includes West’s sister-in-law, Kylie Jenner.

However, West apparently claimed to be worth $3.3bn, which the Forbes team whittled down to its stated $1.3bn after analysing his Yeezy business, holdings and property values.

He reportedly texted a Forbes representative after the article was published: “It’s not a billion. It’s $3.3 billion since no one at Forbes knows how to count.”

West’s latest album, Jesus is King, was released in October 2019 after a number of delays.

It received mixed to negative reviews from critics. The Independent said that the album feels “more like a collection of skits than an LP, and fans will no doubt be wondering whether all the hype and stress that preceded its unveiling was worth it.”
