Kanye West trolls fans with new song 'Lift Yourself'

UPDATE: “Ye vs the People” has leaked online. The lyrics see T.I. end with the following rebuttal to West’s beliefs: “You’ll deal with God for the lack of respect/ Startin’ to make it seem like Donnie cut you a check/ Now you toyin’ with hot lava, better be careful with that/ What’s it mean to gain the world if you ain’t standin’ for sh*t?/ Okay I gotta say it, Ye, you sound high as a b*tch.”

“Yeah, genocide and slavery, we should just try and forget/ And all that free thought shit, find a better defense.”

Kanye West has unloaded his first string of new music since his controversial return to Twitter.

After centring himself in the news cycle by declaring on social media that he “love[s]” Trump – calling him his “brother” and declaring the pair shared ”dragon energy” – he also used Twitter to announce new track “Lift Yourself”.

“I’m going to drop a song with a verse that will bring Ebro the closure he’s been seeking,” he tweeted, referring to Ebro Darden, the US radio presenter who detailed an alleged phone conversation in which West reasserted his support for Trump.

Sampling R&B group Amnesty’s 1973 song “Liberty”, West’s own vocal contribution is essentially gibberish, with the inclusion of: “Whoopedy-scoop. Scoopedy-whoop-de-poop.” You can listen to the song on his website.

However, the rapper quickly followed the track up with “Ye vs the People” ft.T.I., which he debuted on radio station Power 106 FM. The track affects the structure of a political debate between Kanye and T.I., touching on Donald Trump, Barack Obama, police brutality, and even “the sunken place” – a reference from Get Out which has been increasingly attached to criticisms of the rapper.

T.I. had shared in an Instagram story (via Pitchfork) that he and West had met together, adding: “I refuse to just give up on him.”

The two tracks are the first to debut since 2016’s Life of Pablo. He has already announced multiple upcoming releases: a seven-track solo record set for release on 1 June, a collaboration with Kid Cudi called Kids See Ghost, production on a forthcoming Nas LP, and new tracks with Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, and A$AP Rocky.
