From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. After Lizzo shared her excruciating drunk message to Chris Evans with fans, the Avengers star has responded in the most understanding way possible.
Lizzo showed just how relatable she is over the weekend when she posted a TikTok revealing she had slid into Evans’s DMs on Instagram while inebriated.
She posted a series of emojis implying she was “shooting her shot”, as she explained in a voiceover that she was upset at the thought that she was “not going to be able to marry him”.
“Honestly it hurts me to the core,” she said. “Because damn papa, he a rare breed, no comparing.”
“Don’t drink and DM, kids,” she captioned the post, adding: “For legal porpoises this is a joke.”
However, Evans has shown once again that he has an excellent sense of humour. Not only has he now followed Lizzo back on Instagram, he actually replied to her message.
“No shame in a drunk DM,” he wrote, adding a kiss emoji. “God knows I’ve done worse on this app lol.”
Evans was likely referring to the now-notorious incident in which he appeared to accidentally share a very explicit image to his Instagram Stories last September.
After the ensuing uproar on social media, he tweeted the next day:"Now that I have your attention.... VOTE Nov 3rd!!!” in an attempt to encourage fans to vote in the US election.
