Piers Morgan criticises Ariana Grande for not visiting Manchester attack victims

Piers Morgan has elicited controversy once more after criticising Ariana Grande for not visiting the victims of the Manchester attack.

The singer — whose concert was targeted by a suicide bomber on Monday (22 May) — flew back to the US after the incident that left 22 dead and dozens more injured.

Writing on social media, Morgan praised the Queen’s visit to Royal Manchester children’s hospital, saying Grande should have done the same.

Citing Katy Perry’s Tweet that read “God bless The Queen and her kind heart”, the editor wrote: “Agreed. Might have been nice if Ariana Grande had stayed to do the same.”

Morgan wrote in further Tweets how “she should have stayed to visit her injured fans,” “if the Queen can visit the victims in hospital, so can the star they paid to see,” and “it struck me as odd that the Queen would visit the wounded fans & not the star who they had paid to watch”.

One Twitter user pointed out the ‘hypocrisy' in Morgan not attending the inquiry into the Daily Mirror's alleged phone hacking scandal in person, writing back: “That was purely because my daughter was born 2 weeks before so we couldn't fly home.”

Following the attack, Grande wrote on social media: “Broken. From the bottom of my heart, I am so so sorry. I don't have words.”

Grande was supposed to play London’s O2 Arena earlier this week but has cancelled the concerts. Her world tour has also been suspended until early June.
