Mariah Carey says two of her songs were written about her ex Derek Jeter.

The singer and the former New York Yankees captain had a fling in the late 1990s.

In a new interview with Vulture, Carey discussed the revelation – made in her upcoming memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey – that two of her tunes reference the romance.

One of them is the 1997 “The Roof”, which, according to Vulture, references a kiss she shared with Jeter on the roof of the building where he lived at the time.

“I can never forget that moment,” Carey said, adding in part: “I mean, it’s not like it was some intensely deep, intellectually stimulating — again, it was a great moment.”

The other song that references Jeter is “My All”, which, like “The Roof”, appears on Carey’s 1997 album Butterfly.

During her interview with Vulture, Carey also reflected on a past appearance she made on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in which DeGeneres pressed the singer on rumours that she was pregnant.

Carey said the moment left her feeling “extremely uncomfortable”.

The Meaning of Mariah Carey will be released on 29 September.
