Mariah Carey says that she's been "screwed" out of winning Grammys over the years.

In an interview with V Magazine, the singer claims that "popular" artists that aren't "selling a lot of records" aren't rewarded for their work.

Carey has won five Grammys during her career - including Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - and has been nominated 34 times.

Carey said, "In the music business, if you care about the Grammys and submitting your stuff before a certain time frame, you want a single out in the summer, and then you want to have your record [out] before the Grammys [consideration] deadline, which has changed."

Despite how she feels about not winning some Grammys, she says she isn't "bitter about it" and "doesn't give a damn" about the awards show.

However, her comments in the interview suggest otherwise.

"Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn," she says. "I mean, I have five Grammys. That’s cute. There’s people that have been doing this half the time that have twice as many [Grammys]."

While Carey won two Grammys in the first year of her career, she didn't end up getting another Grammy until 2006.

During the interview, Carey also revealed that she is working on "a new album of regular music" with Roc Nation.

She wanted to be clear that it wasn't "a Christmas album."

Carey also said she is inspired by Childish Gambino and enjoys "a lot of people you wouldn't think of" necessarily.

Hopefully we'll hear new music from Carey soon.
