The Mobo nominations have been announced and leading the pack are Grime artists JME and Krept and Konan, both up for four awards apiece.

Grime - a genre that emerged into the mainstream through the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Wiley - dominates the nominations, with artists Stormzy, Lathal Bizzle and Skepta also up for awards.

There are also a number of mainstream artists up for awards, including Rita Ora, Jess Glynne and Mark Ronson.

One of the most coveted awards - Best Album - has some interesting choices including Jamie XX’s In Colour, Krept and Konan’s studio debut The Long Way Home and Lianne La Havas’ Blood.

Notably, FKA twigs is up for two best video awards, for her songs ‘Pendulum’ and ‘Glass & Patron’. She faces competition from Stormzy’s brilliant ‘Know Me From’, Lethal Bizzle’s ‘Fester Skank’ and Rita Ora featuring Chris Brown’s ‘Body On Me’.

Sarah-Jane Crawford announced the nominations at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. The awards ceremony will take place at Leeds' First Direct Arena on November 4, and will be broadcast live on ITV2. 2015 marks 20 years of MOBO awards.

Crawford, who will host the ceremony, said: "This is one of the strongest nominees lists I've seen. That is testament to the artists themselves because you can't put a strong nominees list together if the music's not there, and this year the music has been there.

"Grime has enjoyed a resurgence. Stormzy is so exciting because he's just stormed the top 20 without any promotion and Krept And Konan are going over to America, and people are taking them seriously over there. So that Best Male category alone is a sign of the times and shows how strong it is this year.”
