Morrissey has announced a North American tour with support from Interpol.

The tour will start at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, heading through New York, and going on to venues in Texas and California.

Morrissey will be supporting his forthcoming covers album California Son, which reaches record stores and streaming services 24 May.

The former Smiths singer has become notorious for cancelling and delaying shows, having last June postponed his European and UK tour due to logistical problems. He has not played the UK since performing London Palladium in May last year.

Morrissey caused controversy after publicly speaking out in support of Tommy Robinson, calling the press's treatment of the English Defence League co-founder "shocking".

Morrissey and Interpol will play the following dates.

5 September – Columbia, MD, Merriweather Post Pavilion

7 September – Queens, NY, Forest Hills Stadium

9 September – Philadelphia, PA, BB&T Pavilion

11 September – Kettering, OH, Fraze Pavilion

13 September – Detroit, MI, Meadow Brook Amphitheatre

18 September – Dallas, TX, Verizon Theatre

20 September – Austin, TX, Frank Erwin Center

21 September – Houston, TX, White Oak Outdoor Lawn

28 September – Salt Lake City, UT, SaltAir

30 September – Portland, OR, Theatre Of The Clouds

3 October – San Francisco, CA, Bill Graham Auditorium

5 October – Irvine, CA, Five Point Amphitheatre

6 October – San Diego, CA, Pechanga Arena
