The most blogged artist on January 20 according to The Hype Machine is Jay Reatard, the Memphis garage rocker who died January 13 at age 29. Following in second and third are Swedish indie pop band jj, whose first single came out in 2009 and whose second full-length album is due out in March, and Vampire Weekend, the New York indie rock band whose just-released CD Contra is expected to top Billboard charts.

In sixth place is the South Florida band Surfer Blood, whose debut album Astro Coast was released internationally on January 19. The Faronheit blog (faronheit.blogspot.com) wrote about Surfer Blood, "Among the bands heavily speculated to hit it big via hype [Hype Machine] this calendar year, Surfer Blood may be one of the most often mentioned. ... Now that their debut album 'Astro Coast' finally arrives in stores this week, expect that little bit of hype to pick up dramatically in the coming weeks and months."

The band is due to perform at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, in March, and - just announced January 19 - will also play at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, scheduled for April 16-18.
