Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran are to take to the stage at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Sheeran, who this week overtook Coldplay to claim the biggest-selling album of the year so far with X, announced the news in a video post on Facebook.

He said: “I'm going to be performing this year at the EMAs in Glasgow! I hear there's another female artist performing…

“She's got a few “problems” and hangs out with rappers that might be a bit “fancy”…“

He is also be nominated in the categories Best Male and Best UK and Ireland Act.

“Problem” singer Grande, who has netted nominations in six categories, including Best Song and Best Female, confirmed her appearance on the social network shortly after.

Nicki Minaj is to host the ceremony at The Hydro in Glasgow on 9 November. She has also been nominated in four categories and will perform during the course of the evening.

“Roar” singer Katy Perry is out in front with seven nominations, while “Happy” singer Pharrell Williams and Aussie exports 5 Seconds of Summer are both up for five awards.

Music fans can vote for their favourite artist at mtvema.com between now and 8 November.
