MTV VMAs 2014: Jessie J, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande set to open LA event
Other lined-up performers include Taylor Swift and 5 Seconds of Summer
Jessie J, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande will open the MTV VMA Awards this year with the first live performance of their single “Bang Bang”.
MTV has confirmed that the three artists will perform together at the awards ceremony on Sunday, joining an already announced line-up including Usher, 5 Seconds of Summer, Maroon 5, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.
Gwen Stefani and Kim Kardashian have also been confirmed to present awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles.
Jessie J said in a statement: “When I was the VMA House Artist in 2011 I had a broken foot and I sat on the side stage dreaming about being on that main stage.
"So when I say that this performance is a dream come true for me, I truly mean it. And to be able to share this moment with superstars like Ariana & Nicki, it’s going to be such an amazing night!”
The music video awards ceremony, which has become renowned for producing controversial moments year after year, achieved record TV ratings last year in the US.
The 2013 ceremony created the awards’ largest online reaction yet following Miley Cyrus’ ‘coming of age’ performance with Robin Thicke.
The MTV VMAs air on MTV UK on Monday 25 August at 9pm.
