Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds new album Skeleton Tree to 'delve into tragic backdrop' of teen son Arthur's death

The accompanying film One More Time with Feeling is expected to be 'stark, fragile and raw'

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have revealed that their sixteenth album will be titled Skeleton Tree and released alongside a feature-length film.

The Australian alt-rock band’s new record will be heard in full for the first time on Thursday 8 September when the film, One More Time with Feeling, directed by Andrew Dominik, screens at cinemas nationwide and 650 venues around the world. The album itself will follow the next day.

The fresh material is the first from the group since the death of Cave’s 15-year-old son Arthur, who died after falling from a cliff in Brighton last July, and is expected to be “stark, fragile and raw”.

One More Time with Feeling, narrated by Cave and featuring interviews, footage and a live performance of Skeleton Tree, will “delve into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album”, while both the film and the album are described as “a testament to an artist trying to find his way through the darkness”.

Skeleton Tree is the first release since 2013’s number one album Push the Sky Away. Cave’s 1994 song “Red Right Hand” can currently be heard as the opening theme to BBC gangster drama Peaky Blinders.
