If you can’t find a good enough support band or simply fancy hogging all the glory, why not just support yourself?

That’s exactly what Noel Gallagher did during his Royal Albert Hall gig in London last night kicking off the show with a semi-acoustic set before his band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds took to the stage later on.

Former Oasis member Gem Archer joined Gallagher for the supporting set after they played together for the first time since 2010 at a Lincoln gig last Saturday. The pair performed a string of Oasis hits including “Wonderwall”, “Slide Away”, “Listen Up” and “Cast No Shadow”.

Gallagher recently described the night Oasis broke up as “horrible” but “definitely” the right thing to do.

“I knew that it was going to be a decision that would follow me around - there’s still not a day where I don’t read something about us getting back together - so I knew what I was getting myself into,” he told Jo Whiley.

“What Oasis had in its future was to do bigger tours and generate more money, which is great. I wasn’t planning on going solo but it was such a mess that I was happier off.”

Take this story as a lesson not to swap the support act for the pub.
