Notting Hill Carnival runs over the Sunday and Monday of the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend, and will also present the likes of Becky Hill, Metalheadz, Youngsta and Sasha Keable.
Electronic dance duo Basement Jaxx will head up the RBMA Sound System Stage alongside Jamiacan reggae act Protoje, Jus Now, Tropkillaz and The Heatwave.
Simon Radcliffe, who founded Basement Jaxx, told the Evening Standard that the duo had drawn inspiration from the carnival’s “summer feel” for their new album.
“Carnival is the sound of the city, a cosmopolitan city, and it’s come from that,” he said. “We thought (Notting Hill Carnival) would be fun and we’ve got some new music to play, we’ve been touring, doing lots of gigs around Europe.
Notting Hill Carnival is held every year over the August Bank Holiday and is the largest celebration of its type in Europe. Thousands of people converge on the area to taste the best street food from jerk chicken and rice to other exotic cuisines.
