Coronavirus testing: What we know so far

Pink has announced she tested positive for coronavirus, in a post that criticises the US government’s handling of the crisis.

The singer revealed on Instagram that her and her three-year-old son were suffering from Covid-19 symptoms, but have now recovered. She is making a $1m donation to relief efforts.

“Two weeks ago my three-year old son, Jameson, and I are were showing symptoms of COVID-19,” she wrote. “Fortunately, our primary care physician had access to tests and I tested positive. My family was already sheltering at home and we continued to do so for the last two weeks following the instruction of our doctor.

“Just a few days ago we were re-tested and are now thankfully negative.”

She added: “It is an absolute travesty and failure of our government to not make testing more widely accessible. This illness is serious and real.

“People need to know that the illness affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor, and we must make testing free and more widely accessible to protect our children, our families, our friends and our communities.”

Donald Trump has been widely criticised for his response to the pandemic, which has included many mixed messages and U-turns. He was also recently mocked for bragging about his ratings amid the crisis.

Pink’s donation will be split between the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia and the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency Covid-19 Crisis Fund.

Other celebrities who have tested positive for coronavirus include Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, Dynamo, Frozen 2’s Rachel Matthews and former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.
