Sum 41 share details of first new album in five years 13 Voices
Frontman Deryck Whibley has credited the album with 'saving his life' from alcoholism
Sum 41 have shared details of their first new album in five years, due out this autumn.
The Canadian punk rockers behind early Noughties headbanging hits “In Too Deep” and “Fat Lip” will release 13 Voices on 7 October.
Frontman Deryck Whibley has credited the follow-up to 2011’s Screaming Bloody Murder for “saving his life” amid his recent, widely publicised struggle with alcoholism.
Writing in a statement posted on the band’s Facebook page, he said: “I am really excited to be releasing an album after everything I’ve been through recently. This new music represents the journey I’ve been on throughout the process of making this record. I had to fall in order to rise and nothing feels better than to have something you love that you had to really fight for. I can honestly say that 13 Voices saved my life and I cannot wait to share it with all of you.”
Whibley, 36, was hospitalised in 2014 and almost died five times. His liver and kidneys collapsed and doctors told him that one more drink could kill him. Lond and painful rehabilitation followed, with Whibley still learning to walk again 12 months later.
He said last year that he never wants to drink again. “If I literally hadn’t done it to death I might feel like I’m missing something but I’m not missing anything,” he told Noisey. “I’m done with it.”
The album’s 10-song tracklist and artwork have been revealed:
“A Murder of Crows (You’re All Dead To Me)”
“Goddam I’m Dead Again”
“Fake My Own Death”
“Breaking the Chain”
“There Will Be Blood”
“13 Voices”
“War”
“God Save Us All (Death to POP)
“The Fall and the Rise”
“Twisted By Design”
