Taylor Swift drops Folklore Easter Egg during Grammys acceptance speech

Artist has made history as the first woman to win the Grammy for Album of the Year three times

Taylor Swift made history at the Grammys this year by becoming the first female artist to win Album of the Year three times.

The 31-year-old took home the biggest prize of the night for her surprise 2020 album Folklore, which received near-unanimous critical acclaim upon release.

Taking to the stage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Swift thanked her collaborators including Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and British actor Joe Alwyn, her boyfriend of five years.

She said that Alwyn was “the first person who I play every single song that I write and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine”.

Alwyn is credited on Folkore as a co-writer on the songs “Exile” and “Betty”, under the pseudonym William Bowery.

Swift went on to thank “James, Ines, and Betty, and their parents, who are the second and third people that I play every new song I write”.

Here Swift was addressing her friends, actors Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, and their three children, whose names were used in the song “Betty”.

Swift also thanked her fans, saying: “You guys met us in this imaginary world that we created and we can't tell you how honoured we are forever by this.”

Aaron Dessner, who co-wrote the album, said: “It is hard to believe that I am standing up here with one of the greatest living songwriters, who somehow put their trust in me to collaborate in this crazy time we all live through.”

The 2021 Grammys included a number of historic moments, including Beyonce becoming the most-decorated female artist in Grammys history, with a total of 28 awards, and British singer Harry Styles winning the first Grammy of his career.

Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, also became the second-youngest Grammy winner, aged nine.
