Taylor Swift teases new music video 'The Man'

Taylor Swift does not hold back in her new music video, in which seems to target one of Hollywood’s highest-paid stars.

The singer released a new video for “The Man”, which sees her transform into a man to make a statement about misogyny and male privilege.

While fans were delighted to spot an Easter egg subtly condemning music manager Scooter Braun, a small contingent are wondering if one moment takes aim at Robert Downey Jr.

At one stage in the video, Swift’s character can be seen suited and wearing glasses with arms outstretched – much like a moment from the first Iron Man film.

But why would Swift want to take aim at Downey Jr? Look no further than last month, when the actor raised some eyebrows after making a joke about Swift on The Ellen Show.

The Avengers star told the audience that he learnt some interesting facts about wildlife while filming Dolittle, which has been called “one of the worst films of 2020” so far.

One such fact was that 75 per cent of female spiders eat the male after mating.

“She literally eats her ex,” he said, adding: “This is also seen with another species – the Taylorus Swiftus. No no, she’s actually not cruel; she just writes a song about you. She’s a sweet species.”

Downey Jr has co-starred in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films with Swift’s ex Tom Hiddleston.

Swift has faced criticism over the years for writing music about her experience with exes, something that she herself has branded “very sexist”.

With this in mind, it’s no stretch to assume Swift wanted to respond to Downey Jr in her own small way and viewed her new music video as the perfect opportunity.
