Taylor Swift has set fans a'retweeting after posting a mysterious video to her otherwise empty Twitter profile.

The singer currently has no profile picture, no cover photo and no tweets, except this curious silent one posted around 4pm BST.

It features no music whatsoever, just what a looks to be a CGI snake/tentacle swishing back and forth, the clip glitching.

Those familiar with 2010s release strategies will know that an obscure, avant garde video like this can only mean one thing: some sort of surprise release.

Rumours are already spreading on Twitter that she will drop a track during today's US eclipse, the theory going that her recent 'blacking out' of her social media presence being a reference to the astronomical phenomenon.

More to follow as and when Taylor puts out more content.
