The Weeknd made a cameo in American Dad! and used his appearance on the programme to unveil a new song about being a virgin.

The singer is featured in the episode “A Starboy is Born”, which aired for the first time on Monday.

At one point in the episode, character Hayley Smith (voiced by Rachael MacFarlane) attempts to become intimate with the artist, with the help of her husband Jeff Fischer-Smith (voiced by Jeff Fischer).

Confronted by Hayley and Jeff, The Weeknd starts singing a new tune, which goes in part: “I know you can’t believe it’s true/But I’m man enough to say to you/I’m a virgin.”

The song goes on with The Weeknd singing about waiting for the right person. He later tells Hayley that he’s been “using [his] virgin power to win Grammys”.

“I always wanted to play a character that was the opposite of the public’s perception of me – and of course make fun of myself,” The Weeknd told Variety about his guest appearance.

He added: “I’m a longtime fan of the show. I’ve been watching since high school but I really appreciated it about seven years ago.

“It’s been running for so long, and I feel like it has a real cult following. To really enjoy the show in its entirety you have to really know the characters.”

American Dad! has aired since 2005 and is currently in its 17th season.
