Album: Daphni, Jiaolong (Jiaolong)

Fans of Caribou electro-intellectual Dan Snaith may be surprised by descriptions of Daphni as his "dance music side project", given that 2010's bucolically euphoric Swim was one of the best dance records of recent years.

Better to say, then, this is his "6am club music side-project": dark, insalubrious, pounding, and heads down rather than hands in the air. It's a less distinctive incarnation, but as evidenced by the stutteringly propulsive "Ye Ye", hardly less hypnotic.
