Well what did you expect from a Donald Fagen solo album? It may be 30 years since The Nightfly, but this is no time for the Dan man to go forging new frontiers.
So we get grooves as smooth and tight as Lycra, funky stabs of brass and arch lyrics delivered with cool detachment. It might all be too sleek for its own good if he didn't throw in the odd gem such as "Weather in My Head", complete with guitar solo to go reelin' in those years.
