For all the scholarly interest in this recording (Biondi has gone back to the earliest manuscripts of 'Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione') Galante's interpretation of the 'Four Seasons' is a curiously genteel affair. Not for them the rumpus of Tafelmusik's exciting but occasionally raucous recording. Concerto 236 is the gem in the collection; sinewy and ravishingly clear.
