Hindemith's music can sound academic and dry, too good for the brain to be good for the soul. Yet this artfully chosen programme of the Organ Sonatas, "Zwei Stücke für Orgel, Kleine Kammermusik für fünf bläser No. 2" and the miniature organ concerto, "Kammermusik No. 7", is played with suavity and tenderness by organist Daniel Hyde and the Britten Sinfonia. The new organ of Jesus College Chapel, Cambridge, sounds pure and sweet, while Nicholas Daniel's serpentine oboe charms the ear.
