Back in 2007 the public could find it in their hearts to make room for only one singer-songwriter of British-Italian descent and Savoretti's loss was Nutini's gain.
But as Gary and Robbie proved, pop success is a marathon not a sprint and here comes Savoretti with an album's worth of coffee-shop-friendly tunes eanestly pleading for a second chance. He deserves it – if only for the way he has honed what he does best as opposed to, say, dabbling in cod reggae.
