Album: Liane Carroll, Ballads (Quiet Money)
Singer/pianist Carroll is the worst kept secret in UK jazz: everyone knows she's amazing but a glass ceiling stops her becoming the world star she so obviously is.
There are performances here – an incredible version of Todd Rundgren's "Pretending to Care", plus "'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" and "It's Raining In My Heart" – that should be played on The Voice to show how it's done. This is smooth jazz raised to a high art.
