Susanne van Els's cool reading of the three movements of Ligeti's folk-inspired Sonata for Solo Viola frame Capella Amsterdam's focused performances of "Lux aeterna" and "Drei Fantasien nach Friedrich Hölderlin".

Under Daniel Reuss, the choir highlights the translucency of Robert Heppener's six part-songs for mixed voices, percussion and string quartet to poems by Paul Celan. A sombre performance of the plainchant, "Libera me, Domine", completes an elegaic disc.

Pick of the album: Ligeti's 1966 masterpiece, 'Lux aeterna'
