Album: Miles Kane, Colour of the Trap (Columbia / Sony)
Power pop, with a hint of glam, and a fair amount of Last Shadow Puppets-like orchestral baroque – what did you expect from the first Miles Kane solo album?
Though he's supported Liam's Beady Eye on tour and bagged Noel on backing vox here, the musical oasis promised at various points all too often proves itself to be nothing more than a mirage. Too safe, too familiar...and was that really a power-ballad key change? Good guitarist when the songs allow it, though.
