Jazz and snooker have a lot in common: wayward heroes, intuitive mathematics, improvised solo breaks.

This project by pianist Jonathan Gee and producer/trumpeter Mika Myllari claims to be inspired by Ronnie O'Sulivan, but it's not clear whether they're taking the mick. The music references Zawinul and Miles-era fusion but weedy synth-sounds lack gravitas, suggesting a full orchestral version – or better still, an opera – might be the ultimate way to go, if fags 'n' beer sponsors can be found.

Pick of the album: 'Pink': a lyrical interlude between the breaks
