Album: Phoenix, Bankrupt! (V2)
The fifth album by the intermittently popular but strangely anonymous French band is probably the most overtly pop, with their electronic elements brought to the fore (particularly on "Drakkar Noir" and "Chloroform"), and the winsome sentimentality of Thomas Mars' vocals ramped up.
It's derivative and is a near hybrid of Mew, the Postal Service, M83 and Empire of the Sun, but it's perfectly likeable without ever inspiring outright love.
