The Mallorcan singer goes a bit more uptempo on this, her sixth album, and it’s a welcome move.
Standard jazz instrumentation augmented by fizzing percussion and flamenco guitar perfectly frame Buika’s rasping, imploring voice as she seamlessly blends an array of different styles with grace and energy. There aren’t many who could bring new life to “Ne Me Quitte Pas”. Classy but edgy, controlled but impassioned, what’s not to like?
