Album review: Vinicio Capossela, Rebetiko Gymnastas (La Cupa/Warners)
Once you've gone epic, the only way to go is intimate. So after last year's orchestral extravaganza Marinai, profeti e balene, the Italian Tom Waits (he's even got Ribot on board for a couple of songs) has taken a small band of musicians into an analogue studio to produce this warm, robust tribute to the Greek rebetiko style.
The most familiar tune here will be "Misirlou" (featured in Pulp Fiction) but if that gets the juices flowing so will everything else here.
