She plays clawhammer banjo and mandolin with prodigious intensity. She writes songs based around Edgar Allan Poe poems. And she's not afraid to throw in a countryfied Radiohead cover. Her first UK release is a polished, bluegrassy thing of no small wonder. The flame lit by Gillian Welsh is passed to the Taylor Swift generation.
