She – Zooey Deschanel, "adorkable" actress-cum-singer – and Him – singer-songwriter M Ward, here largely in guitarist/producer mode – return with a third volume of retro pop.
There's heartbreak wrapped in happy tunes, 1960s girl-group pop pastiche, occasional dreary ballads and a cover of Blondie's "Sunday Girl". But Deschanel's more a sundae girl: this is a sweet, light confection, but insubstantial as whipped cream and too sugary for some tastes.
