This is US pianist Kuhn's 10th album for ECM over a period of nearly 40 years, and it's the first time he's played in a trio with bassist Steve Swallow, who joins drummer and regular colleague, Joey Baron.
Much more conventionally jazzy than the ECM norm, the easy mastery takes a while to dig in, although Kuhn has a classic, trilling style that can suit any setting. Swallow's electric bass - whose pitch often resembles that of a guitar - gets a lot of space.
