This Turkish supergroup held the No 1 spot for three months in their homeland with this mournfully expressive instrumental album. Husnu Seniendirici's fluid and creamy clarinet dances with and around Ismail Tuncbilek's clear-toned baglama (a form of small lute) and Aytac Dogan's dryer, more guitar-like kunun. Whereas there's some showcasing of virtuoso technique, mostly these three master musicians simply play to serve their material, settling down to create a rich, ornate sound which relies as much on the silences between the notes as the aching notes themselves.
