'Attack & Release' was produced by Danger Mouse (of Gnarls Barkley/Gorillaz fame), but give or take a few plasticky background beats, if someone told you it was recorded between 1967 and 1974 by Foghat or Rory Gallagher, you wouldn't blink.
The Black Keys are Akron duo Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. On their fifth album, originally planned as a collaboration with wife-beating enthusiast Ike Turner before he died, they flit mercurially between three distinct genres: countryish blues-rock, bluesy country-rock, and rocky country-blues. It is not, objectively, a terrible record. It is, however, a horrible one.
