Album: The Sadies

New Season (Yep Roc)

For those who think that The Sadies might be a Donnas-type proposition, it's probably worth pointing out that not only is no one around here called Sadie, but the band is also an all-male four-piece centred around brothers Dallas and Travis Good. Seven albums in, these cosmic Canadian cowboys – in the production hands of Jayhawk Gary Louris – have never sounded better. New Season will appeal to anyone who favours the psychedelic side of the Byrds, although – as usual on Sadies records – the sheer breadth of the band's ambition is the perfect riposte to anyone who thinks country is one-dimensional. Sublime.
