The familiar soulful meditations of Polish trumpeter Stanko lift this collaboration with three younger US musicians, including star drummer Gerald Cleaver.
But the influence of NYC – where this double album was recorded – ensures a busier feel to the more up-tempo numbers. Poland's late Nobel Laureate, poet Wislawa Szymborska, is the dedicatee, and two gorgeous ballads carrying her name bookend. One CD of slow tunes would have sufficed for me.
