It was never going to be easy to follow up a debut album that featured Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom, and, sure enough, Andy Cabic's fourth Vetiver album finds the San Francisco-based musician treading water.
It's a very Californian sort of inertia, though: which means that what might, at first, sound too laidback and mellow for its own good reveals gentle layers with each further listen. Imagine Jack Johnson for those who'd rather surf and turf than surf.
Pick of the album:Opener 'Rolling Sea' sets the tone nicely
