Album: Weather Report, Live in Berlin 1975 (Birdjam)

Originally recorded for German TV, this CD & DVD package catches the group in their funky-prog phase, with Alphonso Johnson on bass, Chester Thompson on drums and Alex Acuna on percussion added to co-leaders Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter.

The DVD is the thing, allowing you to goggle at the Home Mechanics keyboard kit and Johnson's giant fingers. It also acts as a metaphor: jazz used to be the future, now it's the past. No wonder Shorter has had difficulty adjusting.
