This soundtrack to Peter Strickland's Berberian Sound Studio is the last record by Broadcast, purveyors of icy-sharp electronica: singer Trish Keenan died unexpectedly in 2011.
Its 39 short tracks are populated by whispers, screams and monkey-like gibbering. There are ominous synth washes, grating distortion, portentous organ, as well as flutes. All very sinister, but short on anything approaching a tune. As a soundtrack, sure; as a record, one for the completist.
