Kanye West fans in New York City were devastated when Governors Ball was canceled due to possible lightning at Randall's Island, nixing the first North American performance from the Chicago rapper since he dropped The Life of Pablo. Organizers offered full refunds for the final day of the festival, and Kanye sort of tried to hold a surprise pop-up show to make up for the canceled set. There's no doubt the festival had every right to cancel to ensure the safety of concertgoers, but Yeezy fans claim they would have braved severe thunderstorms to see the man himself perform.

“What better way to die than getting hit by lightning while Kanye going off with ‘All Falls Down?’ I had tickets to Governors Ball and was willing to stand in the mud for six hours and risk getting struck by lightning for Yeezus. Him performing a new set featuring songs from TLOP would have been epic."

"Before the cancelation I joked, 'I hope I get struck by lightning when Kanye performs 'Ultralight Beam’ tomorrow.” I wouldn't actually risk injury for Yeezy, however, I do wish Governors Ball would've waited it out to see if there was even going to BE a risk of lightning before canceling their biggest headliner, like by taking the same approach as Hot 97 did. Canceling the shows during when it was actually supposed to storm and pushing back the gate time to see if the weather got better. Weather was perfect by seven so that approach would've kept everyone happy seeing Kanye and nobody struck by lightning."

"I honestly would have risked the dangerous weather if it meant that I would see Kanye West live. This would have been my first time seeing him live and he was the main reason why I flew in from Florida to New York. I was really most excited about him doing TLOP for the first time live and hopefully seeing a Kanye set full of songs from his whole discography. I was actually in the crowd outside Webster Hall as soon as the announcement was made that his show was going to be there and I was able to see the hectic scenes firsthand which was a pretty memorable experience. I went from jokingly saying I would die for Kanye West to being stuck there and thinking "Shit I might die for Kanye West.”

"I've never seen Kanye before since I missed his YEEZUS tour in 2013, and instantly regretted it. Once TLOP dropped I knew I had to see Kanye, and thought it would be so awesome to be at his first US show playing Pablo. I love New York City too, so it seemed like a no brainer. Once Champions dropped on Friday my excitement shot through the roof. Kanye is easily one of the most influential artists and people of our generation. From rapping to producing to fashion to being a father, he can do it all and does it with ease.

I’m a music director for a radio station, and once TLOP dropped it was the only album I spun for months. I would have stood in a hurricane and tornado for him. I spent so much time and money planning this trip. The GovBall lineup was great, but especially for Sunday because of Kanye and the other Sunday artists. I almost died in that mob outside Webster and stayed into the last second. But I'll follow him around the world to see him perform because it's 2016 and time for me to finally see Kanye."

“I was definitely willing to risk the weather. Kanye headlining was really the only reason I went to Governors Ball. I was super pissed about the cancelation. I think they called it too early. I’ve been to festivals in weather much worse than that. And the weather the day before was worse than Sunday’s weather. I was super pissed the Kanye set was canceled, and I feel like the damage photos they’ve posted could have been from the day before. The first year I went to GovBall was in 2013 and the weather was much worse."

"I can't believe GovBall canceled today like I wouldn't be willing to risk getting struck by lightning to see Kanye? Okay, I mean that was mostly a joke, but if GovBall had went on as scheduled I totally would have been willing to go and stay despite adverse weather conditions! I was just excited about it in general because Kanye is one of my favorite artists of all time and getting the opportunity to see him was so lucky I had been waiting for months for GovBall to see him because I've never seen him before!"
