Glen Hansard, the Oscar-winning songwriter famed for Once, has unveiled the stunning video for his new single "Her Mercy", and you can watch it exclusively here on The Independent.

Hansard is one of Ireland's most succesful musicians; being invited on tour by Bob Dylan, performing with his bands The Frames or The Swell Season, and releasing his latest record Didn't He Ramble are a few examples of his recent successes.

Taken from his second solo album Didn't He Ramble, "Her Mercy" is one of Hansard's most engaging songs.

His vocals are intimately gentle as per, growing stronger as the song builds, while the production video is beautifully directed by Myles O'Reilly, who captures all the warmth and love Hansard delivers through his music in visual form.

Director Myles O'Reilly told The Independent: "Her Mercy has such a universal message. We've all been down and needed picking up.

"Life comes in waves, and at one's lowest ebb it can be impossible to envisage what it is that's going to lift us up again.. but despite how we feel, it will come.

"It was important to get that message across in the video. We have all felt loneliness or know someone who lives alone.

"It is the most helpless of feelings with no apparent remedy. In the video for Her Mercy two people living very lonely lives randomly find each other, and through music and dance their passion for life reignites and inspires everyone around them to feel the same."

Glen Hansard performs at the London Palladium on 16 March 2016
